What Is the Difference Betweenr and Torque Motor

The motor is one of the commonly used electronic devices in life. For different purposes, the motor can be divided into many ways. In this article, JRPanel will introduce the characteristics and principles of servo motors, and introduce the characteristics and principles of torque motors. Finally, the editor will discuss the difference between servo motors and torque motors. If you are interested in motors or servo motors and torque motors, you might as well continue reading.

Servo Motor Features + Principle

The servo motor can use three modes such as torque, position, and speed as the control direction of the motor. It can adopt closed-loop control mode with high control accuracy; its main feature is: when the signal voltage is zero, there is no rotation phenomenon, and the speed increases with the torque. Increases and decreases at a constant speed. The moment of inertia is small and can be used for positioning.

The servo motor can control the speed and position accuracy very accurately, and can convert the voltage signal into torque and speed to drive the control object. The rotor speed of the servo motor is controlled by the input signal and can respond quickly. It is used as an actuator in an automatic control system, and has the characteristics of small electromechanical time constant, high linearity, and starting voltage. Converted into angular displacement or angular velocity output on the motor shaft. Divided into two major categories of DC and AC servo motors, its main feature is that there is no rotation when the signal voltage is zero, and the speed decreases at a uniform speed with the increase of torque.

Torque Motor Features + Principle

Torque motor is a motor whose torque is the control direction. It adopts an open-loop control method. It is a special motor with soft mechanical characteristics and a wide speed range. It has low speed, large torque, strong overload capacity, fast response, The characteristic linearity is good. Its main feature is: it has soft mechanical properties and can be blocked. When the load torque increases, it can automatically reduce the speed and increase the output torque. When the load torque is a certain value, the speed can be adjusted by changing the motor terminal voltage.

Torque motor is a special type of brushless permanent magnet synchronous motor. Since the load is directly connected to the rotor and does not require any transmission parts, the torque motor is a direct drive motor.

The torque motor can be regarded as a linear motor rolled into a circle, or a traditional servo motor with many pole pairs. Because of the large number of pole pairs, conventional torque motors can provide high torque when moving at medium speeds. Another important feature is the compact structure, including narrow silicon steel sheet iron core and large hollow shaft or through-hole shaft.

When the torque motor rotates at a medium speed, it can produce a high torque even at a standstill or at zero speed. Different from traditional motors, the specifications and selection of torque motors mainly depend on torque, not power. Moreover, the peak torque determines the maximum torque that the motor can actually produce, and the continuous torque determines the torque that the motor can continuously provide. The applied load cycle determines the degree of dependence on peak torque or continuous torque.

The Difference Between Servo Motor and Torque Motor

(1) Different performance

1. Servo motor: It can control the speed and position accuracy very accurately, and can convert the voltage signal into torque and speed to drive the control object. The rotor speed of the servo motor is controlled by the input signal and can react quickly. It is used as an actuator in an automatic control system and has the characteristics of small electromechanical time constant, high linearity, and starting voltage.

2. Torque motor: A special motor with a large number of poles, which can continue to run at low speeds or even when the motor is locked (that is, the rotor cannot rotate) without causing damage to the motor. In this working mode, the motor can provide a stable torque to the load.

(2) Different principles

1. Servo motor: an automatic control system that enables the controlled output of the object's position, orientation, and state to follow any changes in the input target (or given value). Servo is mainly based on pulses for positioning. Basically, it can be understood that when the servo motor receives 1 pulse, it will rotate the angle corresponding to 1 pulse to realize displacement.

2. Torque motor: Torque motor is allowed to run at low speed for a long time (even blocked), and its heat is very serious, and it is usually forced to air-cooled by an external blower. When using a torque motor, pay attention to check whether the blower is in good condition, and there should be a good ventilation environment around it, and no dry and combustible materials are allowed. Flammable dust or volatile combustible oils are near.
